IMRAN Sheikh hit form as Clacton enjoyed more success in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

The opener hit 74 as the Seasiders won the second division contest by 62 runs.

Having lost the toss, Clacton were asked to bat first in bowler-friendly conditions.

The visitors lost skipper Scott Facey early on for one, picking out mid-off with a drive.

Ryan Chamberlain joined Sheikh, who continued to work through the gears to add 76 for the second wicket.

Chamberlain was a little unfortunate to be caught off his pad, having under-edged a pull shot, with the score on 80. Bradley Turner joined Sheikh, looking for his third successive hundred.

The pair added 17 until Sheikh was caught for 74 (eight fours and two sixes) with Lewis Kirk soon following, well caught at gully.

Turner and Ashan Athukoralage looked to rebuild after some quick wickets.

However, when the former was out to the slow bowling of Nathan Philpot, another cluster of wickets fell.

Mo Asghar was bowled for five, Brad Pitts trapped LBW for four and, after a mix up with Athukoralage, Kieron Parkes was run out for one.

James Lee joined Athukoralage and the pair added 41, just missing out on getting the side over 200, finishing on 198. Athukoralage made 37 not out (two fours and a six), keeping his calm as wickets fell around him.

Pitts and Turner took the new ball, paying early dividends.

Pitts removed both openers and then Turner had Alfie Foster caught behind, leaving East Bergholt ten for three.

Skipper Ian Gedny and South African Mike Enslin put up the only real resistance, adding 44 before Athukoralage picked up his first wicket.

However they were the only batsmen to make double-figure scores.

The wickets were shared around between the bowlers and an improved fielding display and some accurate bowling meant Clacton comfortably won by 62 runs, claiming all 20 points.

Next week they host Exning (1pm start).
