KYRAN Young’s Frinton showed they possess a ruthless streak when they ended Norwich’s five-game unbeaten run in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League with a clinical ten-wicket victory at Ashlyns Road.

Winning the toss for only the second time this season, Young had no hesitation in inviting the visitors to bat on a hot and humid day, which was ideally suited to Frinton’s seamers.

When Mervyn Westfield and Dan Carter dispatched both openers with only ten runs on the board, the visitors decided to throw caution to the wind in an attempt to get a respectable score to defend.

However, the tactic backfired as Frinton's bowlers and fielders were on top form, with three wickets for Carter and pairs for Westfield, Young and David Brent.

When Harry Nightingale wrapped up the last wicket, with Norwich all out for 106, nine of the ten wickets had been caught in the field.

Norwich’s Kiwi, Will O’Donnell, top-scored with 25 and it was a batting display the visitors will be keen to put behind them.

In reply, Frinton openers Mike Griggs and Murray Commins weren’t prepared to give an inch to Norwich.

Both made unbeaten half-centuries as Frinton cruised home without losing a wicket.

Norwich only had one catching chance in the field, when Griggs was dropped, with the hosts only requiring 23 overs to reach their target.

Frinton’s second team were denied victory at Copford by the weather.

Having got Copford all out for 161, the visitors were well set on 85 for two when the heavens opened and forced the game's abandonment.

Frinton’s third team had more luck with an excellent victory at Sudbourne Hall, which keeps their promotion challenge on course.

Frinton face a testing few weeks in the East Anglian Premier League in the next few weeks when they face current league leaders Cambridge Granta at home on Saturday (11am start) and then travel to second-place Swardeston the following week.
