HOSTS Clacton Golf Club won and retained the 2016 Boudica Bowl.

Captains Nick Smith and Gilly Cullen welcomed teams from Braintree, Colchester, Frinton and Harwich and Dovercourt.

Started in 1993, the Bowl was the idea of past Clacton and Braintree captains Peter Cross and Mike Meddle respectively.

Meddle was on hand to present this year's silverware and the Clacton team of N Smith and G Cullen, C Jeffrey and D Kedge, P Hewett and J Hewett, K Hill and D Pink, S Scott and J Corbyn, S James and C Crossfield returned a winning score of 139 points.

It means they retained the bowl and has set up an interesting match at Colchester next year, as it has never been won three times in a row before.

Nearest the pin on the second hole were S Ness (men) and S Attreill (ladies).

At the fifth it was M Black and M Lawton, at the seventh it was S Ness and M Clarke, at the 15th it was V McAulley and M Clarke and at the 17th it was M Kettle and C Crossfield.

Clacton's top pairing were Steve James and Chris Crossfield, with 40 points.

Meanwhile, Clacton's male members played the Midweek Medal.

The winner was Richard Bridger, returning a score of 81-11-70.

In second place was Ryan Weeks, with 83-12-71, on countback from third-placed Colin Ross, with 79-8-71

Clacton's ladies played the Linkwood Cup, which was presented to the club in 1919 by Mrs R W Coan.

It is the ladies' oldest cup.

Lady Captain Gilly Cullen returned a winning score of 97-22-75.

In second place was Eve Bracci, with 108-32-76, and in third was Brenda Lord, with 97-19-78, on countback from fourth-place Di Kedge, with 98-20-78.
