A COUPLE of mixed matchplay finals were played at Frinton Golf Club.

Kevin Maleary and Caroline Gard won the Easter to Easter competition 3&1 against Gavin Cowell and Caroline Grey.

Meanwhile, the long-overdue Saltwood Plate final was won by Vince McAuley and Simon O’Brien, beating Grey and Alan Keyte 3&2.

O’Brien also won it last year with Anthea Coffey.

It was a very good week for Gard, who went through to the next round of the Daily Mail Foursomes with partner Jan Wright.

They beat Debbie Clements and Val Hall, from St Clements Golf Club, 2&1.

Michelle Lawton and junior Lily Taylor won the second round of the Hunter foursomes, a county knockout against two challengers from Thorndon Park.

They triumphed 3&2 and will go on to the third round.

The ladies played for the Capel Court Rose Bowl in torrential rain.

Marie Ellis showed her mettle, winning with a nett score of 84.

Tracey Taylor finished in second place, with 89.

Finally, it was a big field playing for the men’s Davies Cup and Stableford on Sunday.

The wind shifted around to the north again, so the course played more difficult coming home.

Mark Doyle won the Davies Cup (16 to 28 handicaps) with 36 points.

Brian Little also had 36 points, but came in second on countback.

Peter Irwin continued his winning streak, with 41 stableford points, to win that event, while Mark Smith came second, with 37.
