There will be no complaints from Witham Town assistant manager Alan Kimble if history repeats itself at Brightlingsea Regent tonight.

The last time that Witham made the trip to North Road – at the start of September – it ended in a 3-2 win for the visitors as they secured progress in the FA Cup.

This time, it will be in Ryman League division north action that the Essex rivals meet, but Kimble would welcome a similar outcome as Town look to build on the 1-0 win they had against Waltham Abbey on Saturday.

That victory ended a ten-game winless run for Witham and their assistant manager feels they are moving in the right direction, having taken four points from their last three games.

“I’d take that (FA Cup) result again, but first and foremost, we’ll have to work hard to get it,” he said.

“We know we shouldn’t really be down around the bottom of the league with the quality of players that we have got, but it’s all about the desire of the players and their willingness to battle for each other.

“We will go to Brightlingsea for three points.

“Getting the win on Saturday has given the boys confidence and taking four points from the last three games isn’t a bad return considering the run we’ve been on.

“We should also have got something from the Haringey Borough game so we are ticking over now.

“However, all the hard work will go for nothing if we can’t get something from Brightlingsea.”

There could be a new face in Witham’s starting line-up as defender Damien Green has joined from Chelmsford City.

He has made three appearances for Chelmsford this year, including starting against Witham in the Clarets’ 3-1 Essex Senior Cup victory in December and Kimble feels he can be a useful addition to the Town squad.

He added: “Damien has come to us on loan from Chelsmford, but if everything goes well then there may be the chance that we could get him permanently.

“He’s a versatile defender.

“His natural position is at right-back, but he can play anywhere across the back four so he gives us a few options.

“We feel like we have some real quality in the squad now, but we are looking to strengthen even further and are looking at bringing in another winger and a striker.”
