A WIN, a win, finally a win!

The first team notched their first home win since October last weekend as we beat Mildenhall Town 3-2, thanks to goals from James Dunkley, Billy Wales and a Louie Newland screamer.

I say thanks to those goals but, and I don’t like to claim too much credit, I think I had a hand in it, too.

Back in March 2010 we played a cup semi-final at Gorleston.

In a rush to get home from work and then get the 4pm coach, I only had time for a quick snack – a fish finger sandwich.

This caused some amusement with my fellow supporters but we won 3-0 and a superstition was born.

We played 18 more games that year, winning 14, drawing three and losing just one.

That run saw us clinch promotion and win the First Division Knockout Cup final.

I was at most of those games and had a fish finger sandwich before each game, including one for breakfast on the morning of a midweek trip to Yarmouth in a virtual title decider.

Yarmouth equalised with five minutes left to stay top of the league and I still hold myself responsible for not eating that sandwich a few minutes later so the luck could have lasted until the end of the game.

But come the end of the season and somewhat sick of the sight of fish fingers, I put the tradition to bed.

I’ve had them since but not before games….until last Saturday.

Desperate times called for desperate measures, the sandwiches did their trick and we’ve got ourselves a win.

My main problem now is that with a few busy weeks I’m missing a couple of games so I need to try and work out how to still get a fish finger sandwich each Saturday.

The lads will be doing their best on the pitch but you can rest assured that I will be trying just as hard to find a fish finger sandwich wherever I am over the next few weeks.

And if we stay up, well, you don’t need to thank me too much!
