DEPARTING FC Clacton manager Glenn Eldridge says he is leaving the club with his head held high.

The 30-year-old was relieved of his duties on Monday night, to be replaced by former Seasiders boss David Coyle.

However, he was given the opportunity to take charge one last time and his players did him proud, beating Brantham Athletic 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Eldridge was clearly emotional afterwards and said: “I didn’t realise how much it meant to me until it’s been taken away.

“I’m glad I had one last game and hope it stands me in good stead, because people have told me they respect me for doing it.

“I’ve worked so hard and it’s so disappointing for it to come to an end like this.

“But I’m so glad the boys turned in a performance like that and I’m proud of them all. Their spirit was outstanding.

“I told them to go out and enjoy it and they absolutely destroyed Brantham.

“They were different class and that performance showed what they’re capable of.

“I know what they can achieve and hope they all stay together.”
