Information about the Band
Tom Burgess is a Basildon born, Southend-based singer songwriter who learnt guitar aged 13 by practising Oasis songs. Tom then concluded that he'd had enough of playing other people's songs and started to write his own. His songs were met with much appreciation from his peers in the local music scene at ‘Shangri-la’ at The Railway Hotel with Lance Cusack. Tom then formed 'The Mod Cons' and took up the duties of Lead Singer and Songwriter, after playing the big venues in Southend The Mod Cons recorded their first album but disbanded before it was released due to Tom’s unhappiness with the way his songs had changed to suit the band. It has been commented that Tom is Southend’s answer to "Badly Drawn Boy". Tom released his first solo album in summer 2009 and is currently working towards releasing his second in winter 2010, an album which is to be a much darker than the first drawing more on his contemporary folk influences.
