A PENSIONER who won the hearts of millions while appearing on the hit tv show The X Factor says he has "no regrets" after being sent home by judges.

William Hooper, 82, from Clacton, was told "it's the end of the road" by X-factor judges on Saturday after his rendition of Frank Sinatra's That's Life.

William, of Imperial Court, made it to the bootcamp stage of the singing competition, reaching the final 200 from 200,000 hopefuls.

"Of course I wanted to go through but look at my age!" he said after appearing in front of studio audience of four million, watched by about 12 million at home.

"I think they are looking for younger people. I was lucky to get as far as I did."

The pensioner made headlines after judge Simon Cowell clicked his fingers at William's earlier audition of Sinatra's Come Fly With Me.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Witham lad, Olly Murs, managed to win himself a place in the next round of the competition and the chance to scoop a £1 million record deal.
