UPDATED: A CLACTON man has become the first person in the region to fall victim to swine flu.
The man, who has not been named by health bosses, is believed to have tested positive for the virus after recently returning from Mexico.
NHS North East Essex confirmed the case yesterday afternoon.
Director of public health Mike Gogarty said: βI can confirm that a man from Clacton, a returning traveller, has tested positive for swine flu.
βHe has been given antivirals and is responding well to treatment in his own home.β
