RAM-RAIDERS escaped with more than £10,000 cash after crashing through a Co-Op store.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft of a cash machine in Brightlingsea.

It happened at around 2.45am on Tuesday August 30, at the shop in Samson Road.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "A digger had been used to ram the unit which was built into the wall of the premises.

"The digger and parts of the ATM were left at the scene.

"It is believed a Toyota pick-up truck, colour unconfirmed, was used to pull the machine from the wall.

"A five-figure sum of cash was taken."

A 38-year-old man was arrested shortly after the incident and has since been released from custody without charge.
