TWO seafront shelters in Frinton have been left damaged after attacks by vandals.

The iconic clock tower shelter and the structure opposite Frinton Court have both been targeted.

Glass was smashed and wooden panels were knocked out in the attacks, which were branded “disappointing” and “mindless” by one councillor.

Frinton councillor Terry Allen said: “It is very disappointing that this is still going on.

“At this time of year we can’t blame it on visitors, so it must have been done by locals.

“Whether it is kids or someone else responsible, this is just wanton damage and I can’t imagine why anyone would do it.

“It’s just mindless vandalism for the sake of it.

“The culprits are damaging the heritage of the town that we are trying to protect.”

The town council has asked a contractor to carry out urgent work to fix the shelters.

Mr Allen added: “We couldn’t leave them the way they were. We wanted to get them fixed as soon as possible so this will not spoil anyone’s enjoyment.”

The town council will also ask the police whether the portable CCTV camera could be deployed in the area to prevent the shelters being targeted.
