EASTERN Power Networks has made a bid to buy 34 electricity sub-stations it currently leases from Tendring Council.

The sites are spread across the district and the council said the cost of administering them is disproportionate to the rents received from the company.

All the sites are of different sizes and bring in varying rents from £4 a year up to £100 a year with varying lengths of lease.

Most of the sub-stations are in Clacton and Holland-on-Sea, with others in Walton, Dovercourt and Harwich, and one each in Brightlingsea, St Osyth and Mistley.

None of them can be used by the council for any other purpose.

Carlo Guglielmi, cabinet member for assets, said: The offer we have received from Eastern Power Networks is a very good one.”

The cabinet has agreed to the principle of selling the freehold of the land.
