POPULAR TV presenter Stephen Mulhern is set to amaze patrons at Frinton Summer Theatre’s fundraising gala night this weekend.

The end-of-season spectacle will raise cash for the Friends of Frinton Theatre, the McGrigor Hall and a new fund for debutant theatre professionals in memory of Lynda Bellingham, whose first stage appearance was at Frinton Summer Theatre in the early 1970s.

Mulhern – a magician and host of Catchphrase and Britain’s Got More Talent – will perform magic at the event, which takes place at the McGrigor Hall, in Fourth Avenue, this Sunday at 7.30pm. Edward Max, coartistic director, said: “Stephen will doing his magic act that evening – it should be great.

“Stephen will be joining the exciting line-up we already have for the gala night.

“We are really excited. He is funny, warm, a great presenter and a talented magician.

“He is very happy to support the gala night and the new Lynda Bellingham Frinton Summer Theatre Debut Fund.”

Actor and summer theatre patron Richard Wilson will also be at the event, alongside Nickolas Grace, best known for his work on Brideshead Revisited, as well as Ben Stock, star of both Tomfoolery and Charlie’s Aunt in 2012, who will perform songs from the West End.

The event will also see a blue plaque unveiled in honour of summer theatre favourite Lynda Bellingham, who died in October last year, aged 66, following a battle with cancer.

A fundraising raffle and auction will include tickets to the X Factor, tickets and a backstage tour to Billy Elliot and tea for two with Richard Wilson at an exclusive London hotel.
