YOUNGSTERS battled it out on the beaches of Clacton as part of the resort’s annual sandcastle competition.
The contest, part of Clacton Carnival, took place on West Beach on Tuesday.
Almost 90 children took part in the event, which also includes a hula-hoop competition.
Susan Wiggins, organiser of the contest, said: “It was the best attendance in recent years.
“Many of the sandcastles this year reflected the more traditional castle or fort, but plenty of seaweed ensured an abundance of greenery for decoration and the soft sand on the beaches enabled many castles to have the ever popular moat.
