A HEARTBROKEN mother has vowed to raise awareness and funds to fight a disease that is slowly paralysing her daughter.
Molly Newham, 79, has seen motor neurone disease leave daughter Teresa barely able to walk and forced to communicate by writing on a tablet.
Teresa, 47, grew up in Clacton and trained as a nurse at Colchester General Hospital.
Having seen how much vital home adaptations and changes cost as her daughter’s condition became more severe, Mrs Newham has made it her mission to get people to donate to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, which is focused on care, research and campaigning for sufferers.
“Eventually, she will become completely paralysed. It is a very cruel disease – it is like your worst nightmare and we treasure all the time she is still with us.”
Teresa now lives in Surbiton with husband Paul. The couple married in April before Teresa’s illness worsened.
Mrs Newham plans to hold table-top sales and sell jam to raise money for charity.
