VILLAGERS campaigning against plans for 165 new homes in Little Clacton have enlisted support from Ukip candidate Douglas Carswell.
Residents set up the Save Our Village campaign to fight the proposals to build 131 houses and 24 flats off The Street.
Handing the petition into Tendring Council, Mr Carswell said: “Local people in Little Clacton – like folk in Weeley and St Osyth – suddenly discover that developers have big plans for their villages.
“Then they find there is nothing they can do about it.
“This is what the 12,000 extra houses the council wants will mean for our area. Villages will become towns. There will be enormous pressure on public services.”
Little Clacton Parish Council has recommended the plans for refusal, but the final decision will be made by Tendring Council.
Mr Carswell is standing in the General Election in Clacton against David Grace (Lib Dem), Chris Southall (Green), Giles Watling (Conservative) and Tim Young (Labour).
