CONTRACTORS are set to bid for the chance to carry out a huge £600,000 revamp of the swimming pool in Walton.

The development includes expanding the Princes Esplanade pool to include a new highquality gym suite.

The changing rooms will also be refurbished, while the entrance and reception area will be improved.

Tendring Council runs the pool and has put a £600,000 cashpot aside to fund the project.

It will now go out to tender on the project to pick a contractor to carry out the work.

Details have been sent to six potential firms, who will be able to bid for the chance to carry out the job.

Mark Platt, the council’s leisure boss, said: “The tender documents will be going out any time now and firms will have until around the end of February to return their bids.

“The aim will be to appoint a contractor soon after and then they will be able to start on site at the end of March.

“The same architect is being used for this project as the £900,000 scheme at Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles, and it will be to a similar standard.”
